LHS to host virtual Christmas tour and outdoor market Dec. 4

November 24, 2021

Lewes Historical Society will present its 48th Christmas Tour of Lewes virtually, as 10 private venues open their doors to guests beginning at 5 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 4.

Tickets for the virtual tour are $25, and viewing will be available through Tuesday, Jan. 4.

From the comfort of their own homes, ticket holders will be guided through 10 of Lewes’ distinctive, elegant houses and historic properties festively decorated for the holiday season.

Professionally filmed and narrated by television and radio personality Michael Sprouse, the 60-minute exclusive house tour will take viewers through each of the private residences and historic buildings. Sprouse will point out unique aspects of design, architectural elements and history.

From a newly remodeled 19th-century, Federal-style home in the center of town to a charming Middleburg Hunt-style house situated near Lewes' wetlands, all 10 distinctive properties will be on display showcasing their individual tastes and style.

Footage includes two of the society's historic buildings, restored and decorated for the season, and a holiday entertaining demonstration at Lewes’ 18-century DAR Maull House.

The Lewes Historical Society’s Outdoor Holiday Village and Marketplace will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 4, on its main campus at 110 Shipcarpenter St. in Lewes.

Attendees can shop holiday vendors’ offerings, buy greenery for holiday decorating, join with historic interpreters over the fire pit to hear period stories, and visit with the live sheep from Brittingham Farms.

American Heritage Chocolate demonstrations will be presented throughout the day. Guests can enjoy a cup of hot cider inside Mariner's Tavern at the Rabbit's Ferry House, and experience the tavern as it operated in the early 19th century.

Food and warm beverages will be available for the entire family.

Admission payable at the gate is $5 per adult, and free for children ages 12 and under.

These holiday presentations are generously sponsored by the Lee Ann Wilkinson Group/Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Gallo Realty, Schell Brothers, UBS Chesapeake Group/Tim Reath, PNC Bank, Delmarva Public Media and WMDT-47.
