LHS Outdoor Antique Show and Maritime Living History moved to Sept. 5

August 28, 2020

The Lewes Historical Society will celebrate the 56th anniversary of its outdoor antiques show in combination with its Maritime Living History Festival on the new date of Saturday, Sept. 5, at the Lewes Historical Society Campus, 110 Shipcarpenter St.

Learn about how maritime history has affected Lewes, throughout the past centuries to the present, while surrounding oneself with antique treasures from all periods. High quality antiques and vintage dealers participating in the show will be featuring 18th century to early 20th century antiques. Antique dealers will be actively displaying and selling their pieces between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Lewes was once an epicenter of maritime activity. The historic Shipcarpenter Street Campus will come to life, as living maritime historians from throughout the Atlantic Seaboard inhabit the property, depicting the maritime and naval industries during the past three centuries. Visitors will have the opportunity to engage with interpreters and learn about the hardships and lives of sailors ashore and afloat, through demonstrations of traditional maritime trades.

The streets of downtown Lewes will be inhabited by sailors participating in vignettes and demonstrations that will take place throughout the day between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Extended maritime tours will be offered throughout the day.

Tickets are $5 (children 12 and under free) and available online or at the gate the day of the events. Weekend tickets are also available, which include admission to the Maritime and Antiques Festival in conjunction with the Breaking Britannia's Grasp exhibition, opening at the Cannonball House Friday, Sept. 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Each $10 ticket offers access to visit this special exhibit based on the bombardment of Lewes in 1813, access to this festival as well as free admission to the Lewes History Museum, and are good for the four-day weekend: Sept. 4 through Monday, Sept. 7, at 4 p.m.

If interested in participating as a living historian, email andrew@historiclewes.org.
