Library to host local author Robert Stowe England Sept. 24

September 22, 2022

Local author Robert Stowe England will read from his new novel at 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 24, in the upstairs meeting room at the Rehoboth Beach Public Library.

“A Secret Revealed” tells the story of Dean Farley, a young boy growing up in a small North Carolina community in post-World War II America. He is trying to gain confidence in himself by earning the respect of his parents, brother, schoolmates and teammates. Often with scant guidance, he meets and beats the challenges of boyhood, yet still worries about his ability to overcome the difficulties that surely lie ahead.

Dean's turning point is his decision to take a reckless dare that could endanger his life in order to stop a bully's relentless, humiliating taunts. The event, which fundamentally changes Dean's outlook, was so profound and troubling for him that he kept it a secret.

England is an author and financial journalist whose career in journalism has focused on markets, banking, mortgage finance, the steel industry and the economic impact of population aging. The author earned a bachelor's degree in English at Duke University, where he studied creative writing under English professor William Blackburn and served as associate editor of the Duke Chronicle, the student newspaper.

England was born in York, S.C., and grew up and attended public schools in Gastonia, N.C. He is currently senior price reporter at Fastmarkets Metals and Mining.
