A Lincoln man faces charges after police say he assaulted an officer who was conducting a probation check Aug. 19.

Members of the Delaware State Police Sussex County Governor’s Task Force, which includes Delaware State Police and Delaware Probation and Parole, conducted a probation check on Roberto Cantu, 42, at 11:07 p.m. at his Lincoln residence on Cedar Drive, and found Cantu outside the residence, said Sr. Cpl. Jason Hatchell of the Delaware State Police.

Officers searched Cantu and found .64 grams of cocaine and drug paraphernalia on him, Hatchell said. When they tried to take him into custody, he said, Cantu struggled with the officers, resulting in the injury of a probation and parole officer.

The officer was treated at an area hospital for injury to his lower extremity.

Cantu was charged with felony first-degree assault intentionally causing injury to law enforcement officer, felony resisting arrest with force, offensive touching of a law enforcement officer, and misdemeanor drug charges. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $190,200 cash bond.
