Locally owned Amazon small business JennyGems spotlighted

November 6, 2019

The inaugural Amazon Small Business Spotlight was held Oct. 15 in Washington, D.C.

Roughly 20 sellers invited by Amazon displayed their goods and spoke about how selling on the platform has helped grow their customer bases.

Jenny McMillan, president of JennyGems in Harbeson, was one of the small business owners invited. After 16 years of employment with MBNA America, McMillan was laid off in 2007. With her husband David’s support and encouragement, she turned her part-time hobby of selling on the internet into a full-time career for both of them.

Together, the couple launched JennyGems, a fast-growing online home and party décor brand. The McMillans strive to create products that have a positive effect on customers’ lives.

The JennyGems team develops innovative ways to celebrate milestones, people, pets and experiences. The company expanded its business operations by opening a brick-and-mortar outlet store in Harbeson. The business has also created a charitable product line that benefits cancer research.

JennyGems is located on Route 9, Lewes-Georgetown Highway, in Harbeson and is open Monday to Saturday.
