Louis Brent Ellis Jr., enjoyed Milton retirement

June 5, 2019

Louis Brent Ellis Jr., 79, of Milton, a man of many names, “Brent” by his family, “Lou” by his co-workers, “Hap” by his friends, and of course “Pop-Pop” by his six grandchildren, passed away at his home after a long illness Monday, June 3, 2019.  Lou was born Sept. 11, 1939, in Baltimore, Md., son of the late Louis B. and Ethel Ellis.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from January 1962 to January 1968.   He graduated from the 3320th Aircraft Mechanic Technical School and was an assistant crew chief, supervising ground crew personnel in performing pre-flight operations of the B 52 G aircraft at Loring AFB, Limestone, Maine.

After his discharge from the military, he resumed a career with the International Harvester Company in Baltimore.  Lou supervised numerous employees during his tenure as parts manager and salesman.  After working for International Harvester for over 40 years he looked forward to retirement, but was recruited to establish a new heavy-duty truck parts department for Volvo in the Baltimore area.  His temporary position lasted 10 years.

Finally, eager for retirement, Lou and his wife Donna moved to Milton in 2006.  The Ellises’ dream was to have room for friends and family, and time to enjoy the grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded by his son, Jonathan, who passed away in May 2017.

He is survived by his wife Donna Raymond Ellis; two daughters, Heather and husband William Sullivan, and Kristi and her husband EJ Kinsey; six grandchildren, Hope, Grace, Collin, Claire, Matthew and Karsen; and sisters Nancy Gilmore and Rhonda Herold

A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, Saturday June 8, at 4 p.m.  A time of visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Milton Fire Department, 116 Front St., Milton, DE 19968.
