Love Creek fifth-grader Patrick Little answered his way to victory during school-level competition in the first round of the annual National Geographic GeoBee Jan. 29.
As school champion, Patrick will next take an online qualifying test for a chance to enter state competition, where up to 100 of the state’s top test scorers will become eligible to compete.
Fourth-grader Aidan Lane finished second and fifth-grader Jiyanna Holt finished third in the competition that covers geography, ancient and world civilizations, cultures and physical features of the natural world.
The competition was open to Love Creek fourth- and fifth-graders; students in each class were tested in a preliminary competition that selected a homeroom winner and runner-up for the school competition.
State GeoBee winners receive a paid trip to participate in the GeoBee national championship in the spring, where they will compete for cash prizes, scholarships and an all-expenses-paid Lindblad expedition to the Galápagos Islands aboard the National Geographic Endeavour ll.
