Lower Delaware Duffle Bag Project seeking supply donations

February 3, 2019

The Lower Delaware Duffle Bag Project is making duffle bags for children entering foster care in Sussex and Kent counties. The bags will be given to children by caseworkers of the Delaware Division of Family Services as the children are being removed from their homes.

In the past, children have been given trash bags to carry their few belongings in. The intent is to provide some dignity and brighten a very bad situation for these children. The goal is to make 240 bags by September.

They currently are in need of donations of home decorating fabric, zippers, Velcro, one-inch D rings, and, most importantly, a used or new serger sewing machine in good working order.

The Delaware Volunteer 50 Plus Sussex County Advisory Council Inc. is a 501(c)(3) exempt organization.  A donation receipt letter will be provided for all donations for tax purposes.

All duffle bags are handmade by an army of volunteers; all that is needed are the materials to keep these hands busy.  Know that donations will give a child in crisis a glimmer of hope and perhaps the only item that is truly theirs.

Celebrate the month of February by showing a shattered child some love!  Any contribution made will move them much closer to making that possible.
