Lunch With a Purpose Coastal Delaware members gathered May 6 at Baywood Greens to support the Harry K Foundation.
President and founder Harry Keswani addressed the 216 attendees, explaining the ways the foundation is working to defeat childhood hunger in Delaware. The foundation established and funds 56 pantries inside schools and facilities, and a mobile pantry with the Food Bank of Delaware. Its school packpack program provides more than 1,000 children with food for weekends, over holidays and during the summer. It also provides monthly nutrition and diapers for 200 infants and toddlers through the Community Resource Center baby pantry in Rehoboth Beach.
The event raised $14,989 in cash and in-kind donations, along with 980 pounds of nonperishable items collected for the Food Bank of Delaware.
The Nurses and Neighbors Collaborative Inc. will be the beneficiary of next season's first Lunch With a Purpose event to be held Wednesday, Sept. 2, at Cambria Hotel near Rehoboth Beach.
