Main Street to celebrate Rehoboth’s oldest businesses

Looking to dispel the myth that downtown Rehoboth Beach isn’t a good place for business, Rehoboth Beach Main Street will be honoring some of the city’s longest-running businesses with a celebration at the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand.

Rehoboth Beach Main Street volunteer Cindy Lovett said she was spurred into action because, from time to time, she hears that Rehoboth isn’t a good place for business and a lot of businesses are leaving.

“I started listing those that I know have been here for a long time,” said Lovett, in an email Aug. 23. “I figured about 15 to 20 [businesses]; nope 90. Some have been here over 50 years. The message will be, ‘it looks like Rehoboth is a fantastic place to have a business.’”

RBMS has identified 93 companies that have been in business for at least 25 years, including four that have been in business more than 75 years. All qualifying businesses will receive a sticker indicating the applicable milestone achieved to be displayed in their windows for all to see.
