The Majestic Matron Red Hats is a diverse group of women who have been together for 15 years, since the inception of Red Hats in Sussex County. They held a celebration luncheon July 27 at Rookery North. They meet regularly to celebrate life after 50, enjoy fellowship and share with those who are less fortunate.
The Majestic Matrons have supported WaterStep through the GFWC Delaware State Federation of Women's Clubs by donating countless pairs of shoes. WaterStep uses donations of new and used shoes to raise money to promote safe drinking water projects all over the world.
Queen Mother Maxine McWhorter Ungerbuehler holds the honor of being the fourth queen mother in Delaware and the founder of nine Red Hat chapters. She and Queen Mother Karen Kochis from Kent County founded the Spring Fling held for several years at the Modern Maturity Center with several hundred Red Hats in attendance. Ungerbuehler also founded the first queens chapter in the state, The Blue Hen's Red Hat Chicks with Crowns.
