A Maryland man faces charges for burglarizing Woody’s Dewey Beach.

On July 11, Dewey Beach Police arrested Joseph Bidwick, 23, of Brookeville, Md., and charged him with two counts of burglary in the third degree, three counts of theft under $1,000, and criminal trespass.

Bidwick was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on a $7,250 secured bond.

Woody’s video surveillance showed Bidwick breaking into the restaurant about 2:45 a.m., July 7. He first tried to hide himself by pulling his shirt above his head. The video showed Bidwick strolling through the kitchen, grabbing two 6-packs of Red Stripe beer and entering a closed office door.

Police say he stole alcohol and cash from Woody’s. External video also captured him burglarizing items from a vehicle and from an adjacent yard.

Woody’s owner Jimmy O’Conor thanked locals, visitors and other businesses for sharing the video and information on social media. News of the restaurant burglary went viral, as locals and visitors alike pushed for the burglar’s arrest.

“The outpouring of kindness and concern has been overwhelming! I can't say enough about the community for their support and all the people that shared this story,” he said.
