Man critically injured in Georgetown fire

A 37-year-old man was severely burned Nov. 15 at a campsite in Georgetown.

Georgetown firefighters and Sussex County paramedics were dispatched about 8:30 p.m. to a wooded area off the unit block of Douglas Street for a vegetation fire involving an injury, said Michael Chionchio, assistant state fire marshal.

Emergency responders found the man, 37, in the woods badly burned, and also found a nearby campsite on fire, Chionchio said.

The man was taken to Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Pennsylvania where he is listed in critical condition with severe burns.

Deputy fire marshals are investigating, with the assistance of the Georgetown Police Department, to determine the origin and cause of this fire and the mechanism of injury. There were no other injuries.
