A 45-year-old man was injured Aug. 15 after officials say a wave hit his boat off Fenwick Island beach.
The injury was reported to the U.S. Coast Guard at 7:15 a.m. after the man hurt his back on a pleasure vessel eight miles off the coast, according to Coast Guard officials.
Watchstanders used a 47-foot motor life boat from the Indian River station to recover the unidentified man, who was taken to Beebe Healthcare for treatment.
“Having the right communication equipment on your vessel is key to staying safe on the water,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Steven Setnicky. “Being able to contact the Coast Guard quickly ensured we got the injured man access to medical care as fast as possible. Always bring a cell phone and VHF radio with you underway.”
