Man sought in burglary, firearm incidents near Lewes, Rehoboth

January 6, 2022

Delaware State Police are searching for a Sussex County man in connection with crimes they say he committed near Lewes and Rehoboth.

In the first incident, police say Jhareed Alexander Ayers, 21, went to a Pinetown home on Needle Drive Dec. 16, where he held a 57-year-old man at gunpoint and then physically assaulted him during the home invasion, said Master Cpl. Heather Pepper of the Delaware State Police. She said an undisclosed amount of money was stolen from the residence. Three juveniles were present inside the home during the incident and were not injured. The 57-year-old man received minor injuries, Pepper said, but he did not require medical attention.

Six days later, on Dec. 22, Pepper said, Ayers went to a West Rehoboth home on Duffy Street attempting to locate an acquaintance. When unsuccessful, she said, he pointed a firearm at an individual outside and demanded help in finding the person. Ayers then fled the area; the victim was not injured, she said.

Ayers also has an active capias out of Sussex County Court of Common Pleas for failure to pay.

Ayers is described as black, 5-feet-9-inches tall, weighing 180 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Pepper said Ayers may be in the Cool Springs area.

Anyone with information regarding Ayers’ whereabouts is asked to contact Delaware State Police Troop 7 at 302-644-5020 or 911. Information may also be provided by calling Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333 or at delaware.crimestoppers.com.
