Marc R. Shuster, city planner

Marc R. Shuster, 71, of Lewes, passed away Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017, in his home surrounded by his family. He was born Saturday, June 1, 1946, in Philadelphia, Pa., son of the late Abraham and Sylvia (Wilder) Shuster.

Mr. Shuster was a graduate of Cherry Hill High School West, Class of 1964, after which he earned his bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University in Camden, N.J. He later earned a graduate degree in planning at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J.

Mr. Shuster worked for several firms and municipalities across southern New Jersey before opening his own consulting business. He was a professional city planner and a longstanding member of AICP.

Mr. Shuster was an avid SCUBA diver, the Carribean Islands being among his favorite diving spots. He was a world traveler, who counted Kenya and cruises to exotic ports his preferred destinations. Mr. Shuster was an extremely outgoing gentleman; he never went anywhere where someone didn't know him. More than anything, Mr. Shuster was a scholar, movie buff, and above all, a family man. The moments spent with his loved ones were his most cherished. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and dear friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

Mr. Shuster is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Susan Shuster of Lewes; his daughters: Lisa Giffin and her husband Jeff of Wilmington, and Kara Kokernak and her husband Jay of Alexandria, Va.; his grandchildren: Juniper Giffin of Wilmington and Owen Kokernak and Wyatt Kokernak, both of Alexandria; and his sister, Nina Boxer of Haddon Township, N.J.

Friends may visit with the family Saturday, Nov. 11, from 10 a.m. to noon, with a time for sharing of stories at 11 a.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes. Interment will be private.
