Marguerite Elizabeth Iandolo, artist and writer

August 29, 2018

Marguerite Elizabeth Iandolo, 90, daughter of Marguerite Hicks Sheridan and Leo James Sheridan, passed away at her home surrounded by family Thursday, Aug. 23, 2018.

Although born in Chicago, Ill., she made frequent trips to see her extended family in Canada, even attending boarding school there.  Back in Chicago, she enjoyed her studies at Northwestern University, and developed a passion for the arts which would continue through her lifetime.  She was also an early animal lover, as evidenced by her passion for horseback riding and many cherished pets.

She moved to Washington, D.C., in 1950.  There she met the love of her life, Joseph Iandolo.  They married and moved to Rockville, Md., where they raised a family.  While in Rockville, she was instrumental in saving the historic St. Mary’s Church in Rockville from demolition.  It is one of the country’s original brick Roman Catholic churches.

The move to Rehoboth Beach in 1983 was a happy one.  She enjoyed many years of painting and taking classes at the Rehoboth Art League.  A lover of the written word, she studied fiction writing (never published).  Her writing did, however, appear in various Op-Ed columns in local newspapers, where she advocated for various causes she deemed worthy.  She always found time throughout her life to volunteer, spreading her love of books and reading to those in need. She loved the arts, had a wonderful sense of humor and relished lively conversations.  Her stubborn spirit and willfulness were legend.  Her most enduring love was her family.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Joseph Iandolo; her children: Cathleen Streich and her husband Eric, Michael Iandolo and his wife Jackie Granger, Stephen Iandolo and his wife Mary, and Brigid Heichel and her husband Eric; her grandchildren: Alexander, Matthew (Colleen), Meaghan (Chad), Colleen, Michael (Rachel), Mark, Mackenzie and Jackson; her great-grandchildren: Charlotte and Cooper; and her sister, Bridget Ellen Sheridan.

She will forever be in our hearts and missed every day.  We are better for having known her as wife, mother, sister and friend.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangements handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Lewes.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Marguerite’s name can be made to the Delaware Humane Association, 701 A St., Wilmington, DE 19801.
