Marie was a lifelong resident of the Bridgeville/Greenwood community, and proud to be called the first-generation daughter of Jerry and Marjorie Kehlenbrink, who immigrated to the U.S. following WWII.

After graduating from Bridgeville High School, she joined Delaware Electric Cooperative, retiring in 2012 after 45 years of service. Her outgoing personality, dedication and willingness to always lend a hand made Marie many life-long friends at DEC.

She was preceded in death by her parents and former husbands, James L. Hitchens and Thomas L. Zott.

Marie is survived by her beloved husband Lawrence "Larry" Curlett of Greenwood; her sister Gerri Coble of Bridgeville; her nieces M. Nicole Daniels and Morgan Coble of Bridgeville; stepsons David Curlett of Hampstead, N.C., and Ed Curlett of Riva, Md.; great-niece Deas Daniels; and great-nephews Trey Kefauver and Jasper Coble Brown.

Marie loved animals and was a well-known breeder of Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. Her beloved dogs were her spoiled children. Quarter horses were also one of her passions, and she raised and showed them for many years. She was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, and she was very active in the Delaware Quarter Horse Association where she touched many lives donating her time and enthusiasm to help and promote youth activities in our state. She loved her horses and won many awards with them. Marie cared deeply about preserving the history of Bridgeville and was active in the Bridgeville Historical Society. Her meticulous and colorful summer flower garden was a source of pride. Traveling to the beautiful beaches of the Caribbean Islands with Larry was one of her greatest life pleasures. Marie had many childhood and close friends who brought much joy to her life.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, Oct. 30, at 4 p.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 S. Laws St., Bridgeville, where friends may call beginning at 2 p.m. Interment will be private.
