Marie P. McMartin, lived live to fullest

Marie P. McMartin, 85, of Rehoboth Beach passed away peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2020, at her home, surrounded by her family.  She was born Oct. 17, 1935, in Wilmington, daughter of the late James J. and Margaret M. Ruggiero.

Marie moved from Wilmington to Rehoboth Beach in 1989.  She enjoyed long summer days, sitting by the bay, playing golf and cooking for her family.  Marie loved socializing with her friends at American Legion Post 5 and playing cards. Marie truly enjoyed her life and lived it to the fullest. Above all, Marie cherished time spent with those she held most dear.  She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 40 years, Bernard McMartin.  She is survived by her daughters: Teri Miller Zakutny of Newark, Lori Ann McMartin Ruberti of Lewes and Margaret Mary McMartin Smith (Vernon) of Rehoboth Beach; her grandchildren: Sara Zakutny of Newark, Stephanie Frey of Lewes, Matthew Zakutny of Wilmington, Michael Frey of Lancaster, Pa., Joseph Zakutny of Newark, Bernard Downes of Rehoboth Beach and Brittany Downes of Wilmington; her great-grandchildren: Aiden Topolski of Lewes, Oliver Zakutny of Wilmington,  and Vitolija Zakutny of Wilmington;  her granddaughter-in-law, Monika Mickute of Wilmington;  and her brothers: James Ruggiero of Wilmington and Anthony Ruggiero of Stanton.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, services will be private.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
