Mary Adele Miller, horse enthusiast

Mary Adele (Hartman) Miller, 91, of Camden, passed peacefully at home Wednesday, March 23, 2014, surrounded by her family and compassionate caregivers.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Miller Jr. 2005; mother Ethel Burt Hartman, 1953; father Benjamin Franklin Hartman, 1973; stepmother Margaret K. Hartman, 2009; sister, Gertrude Burt Hubbert, 1984; and sister, Ethel Hartman Greg, 2000.  She is survived by her children, John H. Miller III and daughter-in-law, Joni Miller of Camden; Benjamin H. Miller and son-in-law William Gordon of Rehoboth Beach; Jeffrey B. Miller and daughter-in-law, Joan of Wyoming; Kimberly A. Crouch and son-in-law Stewart of Felton; two grandchildren, John H. Miller IV of Dover and David K. Miller of Wyoming; sisters-in-law, Charlotte Courtney Spence of Wyoming, Delores J. Miller of Florence, S.C.; brother-in-law William Miller of Tallahassee, Fla.; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was a stay-at-home wife and mother who was dedicated to her family.  She was an animal lover and horse enthusiast who shared her father's passion for breeding and training a variety of horse breeds, Tennessee Walkers, Shetland ponies and was an avid Hackney horse show competitor.  She spent her early life between the Hartman family home, Spruce Acres, Camden and the Hartman winter residence, Gerethmar, Sanibel Island, Fla.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held Sunday, April, 6, at 2 p.m., at the Duncan Center, 500 West Loockerman St., Dover. Arrangements by Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming.
