Mary E. (Fox) Bremer, unsung hero

February 15, 2020

Mary E. (Fox) Bremer, 74, of Milton passed away Thursday, Feb. 13, 2020, at her home.  She was born Nov. 21, 1945, in Wilmington, daughter of the late Bernard and Elizabeth (Gifford) Fox.

Mary was a true unsung hero, dedicating countless hours to community volunteer work.  She helped homeless populations find services, and provided counseling and support.  She helped found The Lord’s Table soup kitchen in Gaithersburg, Md. In her retirement, Mary continued her volunteer work by cooking for area shelters.  Mary found great joy living in Milton.  She took long walks on the beach and at Cape Henlopen State Park.

Mary was an avid reader who had a lifelong love of learning and history.  Before every family vacation, she read up on the place she was visiting, and often knew more than the tour guides.  She loved spending time with dear friends old and new, and she was lucky to meet a wonderful group of supportive and friendly neighbors in Milton.  Most of all, Mary loved spending time with family.  She drove to Pennsylvania for every one of her grandchildren’s school events, plays and concerts.  She was a loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

Mary is survived by her beloved husband of 50 years, James C. Bremer Sr. of Milton;  her son, James C. Bremer,Jr. (Nina) of Davis, Calif.;  her daughter, Joan Moore (Jeffrey) of Limerick, Pa.;  her grandchildren:  Nella Moore and Stephen Moore, both of Limerick; and her brother, Bernard Fox (Sandra) of Hendersonville, N.C.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Feb. 21, at  11 a.m., at St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, where friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be private.  Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Mary's memory to the American Kidney Fund, 11921 Rockville Pike, #300, Rockville, MD  20852, or www.kidneyfund.org.
