Mary Frances Suter of Beebe Healthcare to chair heart walk events

March 12, 2020

Mary Frances Suter, DNP, AG-ACNP, GNP, AACC, executive director of Cardiac and Vascular Services at Beebe Healthcare, will serve as chair of the 2020 Southern Delaware Heart Walk events.

The heart walk supports the American Heart Association, whose mission is to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives.

“It is truly an honor to chair the Southern Delaware Heart Walk this year and to represent Beebe Healthcare’s tremendous dedication and commitment to our community. We have a vision at Beebe to improve the health and well-being of all Delawareans,” Suter said. “The heart walk is designed to educate the community and inspire all of us to make the small changes that can make a big difference in living a better life.”

The 2020 Southern Delaware Heart Walks will be held Sunday, Sept. 20, in Rehoboth Beach, and Saturday, Oct. 10, in Dover.

The Southern Delaware Heart Walk events are an opportunity for participants to walk in honor of those who suffer from heart disease, and to raise funds to help advance research and treatment. Heart disease is the nation's No. 1 cause of death, claiming nearly 1 million American lives a year, more than all forms of cancer combined. Stroke is the No. 5 cause of death in the U.S. and the No. 4 cause of death in Delaware. It is the leading cause of long-term disability.

However, around 80 percent of cardiac events can be prevented with education and prevention. The heart walk encourages Americans to make healthy choices including proper nutrition and adding physical activities such as walking to their daily routine.

“We are honored to have Mary Frances’ leadership as chair of the 2020 Southern Delaware Heart Walk,” said David Morris, executive director, American Heart Association in Delaware. “She is a highly regarded, proven leader who brings to this role a passion for fighting heart disease and stroke, and for serving our community.”

Suter joined Beebe Healthcare in July 2019 after 30 years of experience in top Philadelphia hospitals and a career dedicated to heart and vascular care. Suter brings vast clinical and operational knowledge to Beebe. She is bringing a new vision of cardiac care to Beebe and Southern Delaware.

“I am humbled to be a part of this remarkable organization. It is amazing how we are doing big things at a small hospital to assure that patients can stay in their own community,” Suter said.

The Southern Delaware Heart Walk events feature health screenings, CPR demonstrations, a kids’ zone, sponsor tents, prizes, giveaways, healthy snacks and entertainment. Last year’s events raised approximately $100,000. Sponsors this year include Beebe Healthcare, Bayhealth, NRG Energy and M&T Bank.
