Mary Teresa McCarron, caring nurse

Mary Teresa McCarron passed away peacefully at home Sunday, July 29, in Millsboro, with her husband Edward by her side.

One of 11 children, Mary was born Aug. 30, 1939, in County Galway, Ireland. She eventually moved to Birmingham, England, to attend nursing school. As a nurse in England, she specialized in the caring of mentally challenged individuals. Upon moving to the U.S. in 1970, Mary cared for the elderly hospital bound patients as well as those in need of home care. She enjoyed interactions with her many patients and loved caring for anyone in need of help or assistance. Mary was truly selfless and garnered much joy though the love of her family, friends and countless patients she assisted throughout her career.

Mary was predeceased by her parents, Martin and Julia, and 10 siblings. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Edward McCarron; two sons, Edward McCarron, and Brendan McCarron and his wife Heather; three grandchildren, Edward, Brendan, and Ophelia; and a sister, Chris O’Neil.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 3, at Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church, 30839 Mount Joy Road, Millsboro, where friends and family may call after 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Dagsboro. 

The McCarron family would like to thank the doctors, nursed and staff at Vitas Hospice for the wonderful care provided to Mary. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mary’s name to Vitas Hospice, 100 Commerce Drive, Suite 302, Newark, DE 19713.
