September 17, 2021

Two Maryland men face charges Sept. 15 after police say they stole a piece of construction equipment from an Angola site.

Police were called at 8:14 p.m. by a Blue Heron Construction Company representative who said their Ditch Witch SK800 construction equipment was removed from the parking lot of the clubhouse in Middle Creek Preserve, Angola Beach, and had been located in the Lewes BP gas station parking lot  at 17580 Coastal Highway, Lewes, said Master Cpl. Heather Pepper of the Delaware State Police. Troopers responded to the Lewes BP and found a white 2021 Dodge Ram pickup towing a trailer with the stolen Ditch Witch SK800 on it, Pepper said. Troopers then contacted the operator of the Dodge, Roy H. Hanna, 30, of Elkton, Md., and passenger, George W. Whiteman, 52, of North East, Md. Both individuals were taken into custody without incident and transported to Delaware State Police Troop 7.

Both men were charged with felony theft $1,500 or greater, second-degree conspiracy, and third-degree criminal trespass. They were arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 3 and released on $5,500 unsecured bond each.
