Maurice Antonio Handy Jr., family and sports first

October 28, 2019

Maurice Antonio Handy Jr., 30, beloved son and grandson, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019, at Kent General Hospital in Dover.

Maurice was born May 11, 1989, in Ansbach, Germany, son of Maurice A. Handy Sr. and Michelle Denise Wright. He was a technician at the Car Wash Center in Dover. He was a fun-loving jokester, with his own unique personality that made everybody laugh. He loved kidding around. He was a helper, and enjoyed doing yardwork with his grandmother. His two big things in life were family and sports, especially basketball. He also loved the summer season.

Maurice is survived by both of his parents, his paternal grandmother Mary Ellen Handy, and paternal grandfather Jerry E. Mumford. Also surviving are his maternal grandfather James Wise, and maternal grandmother Kathleen Wise. In addition, Maurice is mourned and missed by uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family. Most important to him were his cousins - he always kept in touch with Jordy, “Bry,” “Mike-Mike,” T.J. and “Little G.” And he will be missed by many, many friends.

He was preceded by his paternal great-grandparents Edward P. and Madeline S. Handy.

A viewing and time of visitation will be held Saturday, Nov. 2, at Watson Funeral Home, 212 S. Washington St., Miillsboro, from 10 a.m. until noon, when friends may call.

The Funeral Service is private for the family only, and will be scheduled at a later time and place. The family wishes to thank everyone for their love and support at this time. If anyone wishes to make a memorial contribution, the family suggests the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
