Mayor-elect Stan Mills, please deliver!

August 28, 2020

During this election cycle in Rehoboth Beach I received a phone call from Stan Mills.  Stan called me as his election mailer that was sent to me got returned in the mail.  I explained to him that the database for registered voters is not the same database that the city uses for sending tax bills, etc.  This is a prime example of poor communication systems employed by the City of Rehoboth Beach.  I received no communication from any of the candidates running for office.  Clearly a failure of the election process.

Stan Mills then proceeded to ask me about a comprehensive communication plan that I outlined and presented to the communication committee that was chaired by Stan Mills.  I presented this plan 10 years ago.  This would never have been implemented under former Mayor Sam Cooper as his lack of communication was his approach to stay in office.  This was clearly very successful as he stayed in office for 30 years.  Stan wanted to know if I still had this plan as he planned on tackling the poor communications of the city started by Sam Cooper and carried on by current Mayor Paul Kuhns. I did not have a copy of the plan that I developed 10 years ago but offered to help him develop a new one under the current environment.  This plan is desperately needed.  The city has a communications department which is a failure in my opinion, so I was very glad that Stan Mills plans on tackling this project.

When people asked me who I would vote for in the Rehoboth election, I told them that I was going to vote for Stan Mills and I shared my story with them.  The response I received from folks was astonishing.  “How can you vote for him; don’t you remember what he did 10 years ago?”  During his run for mayor I suggested that he own up to his mistakes of the past and focus on the future of Rehoboth Beach.

I am writing this letter to Mayor-elect Mills.  Please be sincere, deliver what you promised and don’t disappoint your neighbors in Rehoboth Beach.  The city truly needs a real communication plan.  I am happy to help in any way that I can.
