McGuiness, Arlett win primary races

Hudson, Rieley win Sussex County Council races

Rehoboth Beach resident Kathy McGuiness won the Democrat primary for state auditor Sept. 6 and Sussex County Councilman Rob Arlett won the Republican primary for U.S. Senate.

Delaware Department of Election results have posted a win for Jesse Vanderwende in the Republican primary for the 35th Representative District. Vanderwende beat Robert D. Mitchell 1,254 to 920, earning the Republican candidacy for the seat formerly held by David Wilson who is running for Senate. For Sussex County Council, Doug Hudson and John Rieley also posted wins.

Hudson beat George Parish 2,068-1,430 in the Republican primary for District 4 and Rieley beat Kevin Christophel 1,619-1,260 in the Republican primary for District 5.

In statewide races, McGuiness took about 42 percent of the vote in a three-way race for state auditor. Arlett took about 67 percent of the three-way race in the Republican primary.

Tom Carper won the Democrat primary for U.S. Senate with about 65 percent of the vote, Scott Walker won the Republican primary for Congress with 53 percent of the vote and Kathy Jennings won the Democrat primary for Attorney General with about 57 percent of the vote in a four-way race.
