Well I finally received my letter in the mail. Was it Publishers Clearing House telling me I won a boatload of money every week for life?
No, it’s from Mid-Atlantic Family Practice telling me that my wallet will get lighter by $3,600 a year for my wife and I for the privilege of seeing them. From a small office on Savannah Road to their current two locations, we were faithful patients who referred others to the practice. They were the best and only practice to go to in my opinion.
As I read the letter it states, “I am making some great improvements in my practice that have made me even more excited to be your doctor.” OMG! For just $3,600 per year we can get better service instead of the subpar service I have been giving you for the last 20 years. You are saying “pay to play,” and if you don’t like it get out.
The doctor’s oath is “primum non nocere,” or simply, “first, do no harm, and don’t forget to get your $1,800 per head.” The letter goes on to say “patients will also enjoy the added piece of mind of being able to contact me during and after hours and to schedule a same-day or next-day appointment with little or no wait.” Sounds like an infomercial at 2 a.m. from the “My Pillow” guy. So now docs, I have to pay premiums, co-pays, deductibles, and a pay-to-play scheme just to be seen by a MDVIP? Get over yourself. I won’t pay. You won’t care. I already found a doctor who cares more about me and my wife than you or your money. I’d like to say shame on you, but you can’t shame the shameless. I hope your capitalistic endeavor fails.
