Mermaid camp set at Delaware beaches June 19-20

June 9, 2021

Mermaid Tasha, aka Tasha Haight, will offer mermaid camp from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, June 19 and 20, at the Delaware beaches.

Little mermaids ages 8-15 will learn how to swim properly and safely while wearing a mermaid tail. They will learn to take care of themselves and the environment, and what marine creatures live in local waters. At the end of the weekend, they will have earned their FinFun Mermaid University mermaid certificates, proving each can safely swim in their tail. Tail and monofin, instruction, lunch and photos are included.

Safety is very important. To participate in the water portions of the camp, campers must be able to complete prerequisites to swimming in a tail. There will be a test before anyone is allowed in the water in tail, and no refund will be given for those failing to pass. Prerequisite skills are: back float, front float, roll from front to back float, tread water and swim unassisted.

Campers have the option to participate in a half-day of dry mermaid activities such as crafts, instructional learning and a beach photoshoot. Half-day participants do not receive a FinFun Mermaid University certificate as they do not swim in the tail but will still receive the full tail and monofin set.

A minimum of four participants is needed to hold a mermaid camp.

Cost is $250 to $350.
