Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD to return to art theater Oct. 18

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society will once again present The Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD at the Cinema Art Theater in Lewes. This award-winning series will feature live transmissions of 10 spectacular productions.

Since its initial broadcast in 2006, The Met: Live in HD has grown in popularity among classical music lovers from around the world, proving opera can have a place in their local movie theaters. It is now the largest provider of alternative cinema content in the world reaching more than 2,000 venues in countries across six continents.

The season begins with Mussorgsky’s “Boris Godunov,” which will play at 1 p.m., Monday, Oct. 18, and 6 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 18.

Also screening throughout the season are “Fire Shut Up in My Bones,” “Eurydice,” “Cinderella - Holiday Production,” “Rigoletto,” “Ariadne auf Naxos,” “Don Carlos,” “Turandot,” “Lucia di Lammermoor” and “Hamlet.” In addition to the opera performance, the HD series features Met opera stars conducting live interviews with cast and/or various production crew members while showing behind-the-scenes features.

Admission for The Met: Live in HD broadcasts is $22 for Met members, $22 for film society members, $25 for adults, $22 for seniors age 65 and older, $15 for students with ID and $15 for children age 12 and under. Customers are encouraged to purchase admission online at rehobothfilm.com. If seats are available, entry can be paid at the theater 30 minutes before the screening.
