Mid-Atlantic Field Hockey Camp still going strong after 37 years

July 25, 2014

Since 1978, hockey players from around the United States have learned to pass, stroke, shoot, assist, attack, dribble and bully at the Mid-Atlantic Field Hockey Camp at Cape Henlopen State Park.

This year is no different as 105 campers have been taught by 22 counselors, who are made up of high school and college players and coaches.

MAFHC is sanctioned by the United States Field Hockey Association and welcomes players from sixth grade to 12th grade, from beginners to advanced.

Frannie Slabonik has been involved at Mid-Atlantic for 35 years, coming first as a camper and working her way to the top as the director.

"We have a great group of campers this year," said Slabonik. "Our campers are from 39 different schools from six states. The weather most certainly spoiled us this week. It was a great opportunity to improve our skills and love of the game at this hidden treasure of Cape Henlopen State Park."
