Milford High to present Edgar Allan Poe show Nov. 16-17

November 14, 2018

The students of Milford High School’s Drama Club are thrilled to present Nightfall with Edgar Allan Poe, a dramatization of four of Poe’s beloved works: “The Raven,” “The Fall of the House of Usher,” “The Pit and the Pendulum,” and “The Tell-Tale Heart.” The show connects the works through the character of Poe, who is part of each story, and takes the audience on an exploration of his mind. Poe narrates and then becomes involved in each tale.

Performances will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 16, and 1 and 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 17, in the Milford High School Auditorium.

Director Carissa Meiklejohn said, “We decided to expand the idea by having two different students play Poe, as if they are different parts of his personality.” Sophomore Jacob Elliot is Poe in the first and third scenes, and freshman Jacob Faulkner takes on the role in the second and fourth scenes.

Works by Poe are often read in school, and seeing them as plays gives a fresh perspective on these haunting stories. An abstract set and additional poems including “The Conqueror Worm” and “Annabel Lee” during scene changes will lead the audience through a variety of locations created from Poe’s memories and writings.

Having multiple short pieces, this show has given many students the opportunity to participate in a variety of roles both on- and off-stage. Other featured cast members in this production include Jocelyn Argo, Lauren Edwards, Anna Hatfield, Danae Martinez, Lizzy Pierce, Ethan Reynolds, Ireland Stump, Jace Thompson, Paige Thompson, Isabella Tyrrell, Mystery Villa, Rebecca Wisniewski and Natalie Zelano. Crew members, understudies, and scene assistants include Hannah Cannady, Mia Demby, Jenise Lemons, Owen McDonald, Caitlyn Maloney, Katherine Maloney, Derrik Mullin, Chris Perry, Logan Redden, Shana Smith, Haley Thompson and Cullen Young.

Tickets are $5 for ages 2-18 and ages 60 and older, and $7 for all others; they will be available for purchase at the door.
