Milford man dies in Route 1 crash
A Milford man died Oct. 2 after a single-car crash on Route 1 near Milford.
The man, 53, was traveling northbound on Route 1 at 11:32 a.m. approaching an off-ramp when he failed to maintain control of his vehicle and swerved right and off the east edge of the roadway, said Master Cpl. Heather Pepper of the Delaware State Police.
His 2015 Chrysler 200 overran a barbed-wire fence before running head-on into a tree, Pepper said, and after crashing into the tree, the car burst into flames.
The driver suffered fatal injuries during the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Identification is pending notification to next of kin.
The right lane of Route 1 was closed for about three hours while the scene was processed and cleared.
