A Milford woman faces charges after police say she was under the influence of alcohol June 29 when she overturned her vehicle in Greenwood, seriously injuring an 11-year-old boy.

The single-vehicle crash happened at 9:46 p.m. at Shawnee Road and Harvest Lane where the vehicle overturned, said Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe of the Delaware State Police.

When police arrived, she said, they smelled alcohol on the driver, 53-year-old Patricia J. Prettyman, and found out she had four previous DUI convictions, making this her fifth offense.

Prettyman and the two passengers - an adult male and his 11-year-old son were transported to Bayhealth Sussex Campus. The boy was later transported to A.I. DuPont Hospital with serious injuries, Jaffe said.

Prettyman was released from the hospital and taken to Troop 5 where she was charged with felony fifth offense driving under the influence, first-degree vehicular assault, endangering the welfare of child while DUI, third-degree vehicular assault, driving while suspended and failure to maintain lane.

Prettyman was arraigned and committed to Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution in default of $20,201 cash only bond.
