Millsboro man arrested for assault

April 7, 2021

A Millsboro man was arrested April 5 after an incident where police said he attacked a 77-year-old man and hit him with a weed trimmer.

Master Cpl. Heather Pepper, spokeswoman for Delaware State Police, said the victim had been feeding geese outside his residence when his neighbor Charles L. Harrigan, 71, began yelling at him. Harrigan then approached the victim and started a fight with him, then picked up his weed trimmer and began hitting the man with it.

Pepper said the man sustained minor injuries and refused medical treatment.

Harrigan was arrested without incident and charged with second-degree assault causing physical injury to a person more than 62 years old, a felony in which a person causes another person bodily harm without the use of a deadly weapon. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 2 in Rehoboth Beach and released on his own recognizance.
