A Millsboro man was killed Nov. 13 after he was struck by a truck near the Indian River Inlet bridge.
Joshua Covelli, 26, was wearing dark clothing and was not carrying a flashlight at 11:18 p.m. as he walked southbound in the left lane of Route 1 near the Indian River Inlet bridge, said Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe of the Delaware State Police.
As Covelli was walking, Jaffe said, a 2015 Ford E-350 Budget Rental box truck driven by a 56-year-old Florida man struck the walker because the driver did not see him.
The impact projected the walker southbound into the left lane of travel; the truck stopped nearby, Jaffe said.
The driver remained on scene; he was properly restrained and uninjured as a result of the crash. Alcohol is not a factor on his part, Jaffe said.
Covelli was removed from the scene by EMS and transported to Beebe Healthcare where he was pronounced dead.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident and asks anyone with information to contact Troop 7 at 703-3267. No charges have been filed at this time.
The southbound lanes of Coastal Highway just north of the Inlet bridge were closed for about two hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
