Millsboro probationer charged after weapons, drugs found on his property

A Millsboro man on probation faces weapon and drug charges after an administrative search of his property April 29.

Delaware State Police and officers with probation and parole went to a home in the 28000 block of Mount Joy Road for a property search and found weapons and drugs in connection with Christopher Smith, 41, a convicted felon who is prohibited from possessing those items, said Sr. Cpl. Leonard DeMalto of the Delaware State Police.

During the search, DeMalto said, probation officers found a Remington shotgun, a Harrington & Richardson Arms rifle, about 10.5 grams of crack cocaine, about 1.7 grams of cocaine, numerous rounds of ammunition, drug paraphernalia, and more than $3,600 in suspected drug proceeds. Four juveniles were also living at the property.

Smith was transported to Troop 4 and charged with two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in a tier 2 quantity, two counts of possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, 7 counts possession of ammunition by a person prohibited, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, two counts possession of a firearm while possessing a controlled substance, four counts of endangering the welfare of a child, and three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. Smith was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $159,001 cash bond.
