Millsboro woman, 18, dies in Harrington crash

A Millsboro teen died April 27 following a crash near Harrington.

The crash happened at 10:24 a.m., when a 2017 Kentworth truck pulling a 2014 Wilson trailer was in the left-turn lane median crossover on Route 13 northbound, preparing to turn left across southbound Route 13 onto westbound Tower Hill Road. The truck pulled out into the path of a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta that was traveling southbound in the left lane of Route 13, causing the Jetta to strike the right rear tandem wheels of the trailer, said Sgt. Heather Pepper of the Delaware State Police.

The driver of the Jetta, an 18-year-old Dover man, was transported by helicopter to an area hospital. At the time of this release, the status of his injuries is unknown, Pepper said.

An 18-year-old Millsboro woman seated in the front passenger seat of the Jetta died from injuries sustained during the crash, Pepper said. She was pronounced deceased at the scene; identification is pending notification to next of kin.

The driver of the truck, a 65-year-old Townsend man, was not injured in the collision.

The roadway was closed for about three hours as the crash was investigated and the roadway was cleared.

The Delaware State Police Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this collision.
