SUBMITTED PHOTOThe Mid-Sussex 9-10 all-star team captured the District 3 championship with a 2-1 victory over Milton in a winner-take-all title game July 12 in Millsboro.
Mid-Sussex is composed of players from Georgetown and Millsboro.
The championship matchup capped a tightly contested tournament between the two teams, which combined to score just 10 runs in three meetings. Mid-Sussex claimed the first game 2-1 July 2, before Milton responded with a 3-1 win July 11, forcing the deciding championship game.
KJ Daisey started on the mound for Mid-Sussex, pitching 4.1 strong innings. AJ Grub came out of the bullpen to earn the save, striking out four batters over the final 1.2 innings.
Jase DeLacy went the distance on the mound for Milton in a strong complete-game effort.
“We battled really hard tonight,” said Milton manager Bob DeLacy. “I’m super proud of this team. I’m looking forward to coming back next year.”
Milton collected hits from Henry Hill, Jacob Reynolds, Hudson Libby and Brock Davis.
Mid-Sussex was led offensively by Brantley Mitchell, whose bases-clearing two-run triple proved to be the difference. JJ Dunlap and AJ Grub each added a single.
“We lost our second game of the tournament, but we came back strong,” said Hill, who scored Milton's lone run. “We just had fun and enjoyed the moment. Everyone chipped in, and we’re looking forward to coming back strong next year.”
