Milton Arts Guild lifts seniors’ spirits with handmade cards

October 27, 2020

With their Call for Compassion initiative, Milton Arts Guild members are delivering handmade cards to nursing homes, assisted living centers, senior centers and skilled nursing facilities to bring a little smile and hello to the residents.

To date, they have delivered more than 300 handcrafted greeting cards by Milton Arts Guild artists to four facilities: Milford Place in Milford, Brandywine Living at Seaside Pointe in Rehoboth  Beach, Cadia Healthcare Renaissance in Millsboro and the Milton CHEER Center.

This project was created and spearheaded by guild member Sandee Duncan. Given her experience working in nursing homes, she recognized the need to reach out to facility residents as the pandemic greatly decreased their interaction and increased isolation from family and friends due to health department restrictions. She presented the idea to the board of directors who enthusiastically got on board with a call to the membership for handcrafted cards.

The membership has delivered and keeps delivering. Each card includes original artwork, a simple greeting signed by the artist, and a Milton Arts Guild logo stamp on the back.

Guild members will continue to collect cards and distribute to locations in the area. Any center that desires cards can email MiltonArtsGuild310@gmail.com with the number of residents and the location’s address.

Milton Arts Guild members hope this simple act of kindness, a greeting from a stranger, gives a lift to these seniors’ days.
