Milton council OKs contract for new well at Shipbuilder’s

April 11, 2019

Milton Town Council approved a $169,000 bid to drill a well at Shipbuilder’s Village, but council is holding off on a vote for a water treatment facility at the same site.

A.C. Schultes of Bridgeville was the low bidder; Town Manager Kristy Rogers said the bid was $8,000 less than anticipated.

Rogers said the bid on the treatment facility will come later, once water-quality testing results are in.

The well and treatment plant were packaged as part of an $895,000 referendum approved by voters in June. The combined well and treatment plant, to be built near the new H.O. Brittingham Elementary School, was estimated at $500,000.

The referendum also included funding for a water main extension into Wagamon’s West Shores, which was estimated to cost $395,000, but the final low bid by Zack Excavating of Smyrna was $425,000. Town officials plan to make up the difference with funds from the town treasury.
