Milton Garden Club releases new tagline

Friendships and Flowers Growing Together
June 18, 2022

The Milton Garden Club officers and members have approved a new tagline for their organization.

Multiple entries were submitted to the club’s tagline contest, and many members mentioned friends and friendship.

The Milton Garden Club is proud it has become known as a group that is welcoming, devoted to its membership and fosters friendships.

Club President Mary Ellen King said its board is also very encouraged about the growth the club has seen in the past year, with an influx of new members bringing many skills.

Although members’ main job is to plant and maintain the flowers and perennials in downtown Milton garden areas, people join the club for other reasons as well.

Each monthly meeting includes an educational program about gardening. Meetings provide a place to meet like-minded men and women who love gardening, and can share their expertise and experience. The club welcomes individuals with all levels of gardening skills.

Other important activities, such as fundraising events, allow members to interact with the Milton community, which has been very supportive of the garden club.

The club held a successful plant sale at the recent Horseshoe Crab and Shorebird Festival. Jan Daily and Gillian Benson, co-vice presidents, organized a demonstration that showed more than 120 children how to plant and care for sunflowers. Each child received his or her own potted seeds with instructions on how to care for the new seedlings. The garden club also held its first free Hope in Bloom gift raffle. The prize was a Weber tailgate grill valued at $150. A silent auction of Liz Micelli’s pastel painting, “Afternoon Bliss,” raised $350. A 50/50 raffle also kicked off at the Horseshoe Crab Festival and will run all year long.

Upcoming events include a King’s Ice Cream Social Saturday, Aug. 27, when tickets will be raffled for the fall garden tour to be held Sunday, Sept. 18. Eight beautiful and diverse gardens will be featured on this year’s tour, including four within walking distance in the downtown area. The free Hope in Bloom raffles and demonstrations will continue at these events.

Gardening, events, projects and programs combine to keep club members engaged and strengthen bonds of friendship. Members derive satisfaction from contributing in worthwhile and important ways to the betterment of their town.

Due to the dedication of its membership, the generosity of the community and the innate beauty and charm of Milton and its people, the board of directors feel the club’s mission to Beautify Milton through Flowers is secure.
