Milton Historical Society King Cole Cannery Celebrity Chef Cook-Off set Sept. 27

Tickets limited for society’s major fundraiser
September 20, 2018

The time is now to reserve tickets for Milton's greatest fundraiser of the year. On Thursday, Sept. 27, the Milton Historical Society presents its annual King Cole Cannery Celebrity Chef Cook-Off at the Milton Fire Hall from 5:30 to 8 p.m.  Guests will sample creative dishes prepared specially for this exciting competition by these seven local chefs: Mike Clampitt, Po’ Boys Creole Restaurant; Mary Gaffney, A Different Kitchen; Chris Parker, Lupo Italian Kitchen; Drew Boyle, Bethany Blues (Lewes); Vincent Modesto, The Butcher Block; Kevin Reading, Abbott's Grill; and Nate Griffith, Gilligan's Restaurant and Bar (coming to Milton soon).

Each of the chefs has extensive culinary training and experience in restaurants and the food service industry. They have generously agreed to create tasting plates that include Delaware-farmed fruit and/or vegetables that would have been processed at the historic King Cole Cannery in Milton. The chefs also have the option of using beef provided by The Butcher Block and chicken provided by Allen Harim Foods.   Savoring the talents of the chefs as they work with Sussex County’s bounty of foods and flavors makes this event one of the most popular of the year.

And, this year the competition heats up!  The chefs will compete for a People's Choice award and a Critic's Choice award.  The People's Choice award is decided by the votes of attending guests after sampling each chef's creation. Upping the ante on this year’s cook-off are three celebrity judges who will determine the Critic's Choice award, Bob Yesbek, Denise Clemons and Eban Brittingham.

Yesbek is locally known as the “Rehoboth Foodie.” His popular blog, RehobothFoodie.com, offers all the latest restaurant news and reviews. Clemons, a Cape Gazette columnist and author, is known for her weekly Cape Flavors column featuring food history, seasonal ingredients and recipes for the home cook.

Brittingham is a manager at Irish Eyes Pub & Restaurant in Milton. He was formerly the owner/operator and at times, chef, at Besemé Restaurant in Lewes. He was born in Delaware, lives in Milton, and has a broad knowledge of a wide variety of cuisines acquired through global travels.

It will be a memorable evening with live music performed by local favorite Jeff Evans, plus complimentary appetizers and desserts, and a fabulous basket raffle, many beautiful baskets filled to the brim with exciting gifts.  All baskets are valued over $150!

There will also be a silent auction for a four-digit Delaware tag and a 50/50 raffle with extra prizes

Tickets are limited. Contact the Milton Historical Society at info@historicmilton.com or call 302-684-1010 to make a reservation.  Tickets are $35 for members who pay before 4 p.m., Friday, Sept. 21.
