February 23, 2020

Students at Beacon Middle School have spent the last several weeks preparing for their spring musical, “Into the Woods Jr.,” a musical fairy tale by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine.

Performances will take place at 6:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday, Feb. 28 and 29, with an encore performance at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, March 1.

Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for senior citizens and students. All shows will take place at Beacon Middle School, 19483 John J. Williams Hwy., Lewes.

“Into the Woods Jr.” features popular fairy tale characters including Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (and his beanstalk) and the Witch. It centers around the wishes of several characters who include a baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the king’s festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk.

“Into the Woods Jr.” is a funny and engaging way to remember the stories many have grown up with and the ethical issues raised therein.

“I’m really proud of all the hard work our students have put into to preparing for the musical,” said Juleeann Schlitter, musical director and choir teacher at Beacon. “With this unique take on popular fairy tales, it’s a show that people of all ages can really enjoy.”
