Nancy Anderson Stevens, avid traveler

March 13, 2023

Nancy Anderson Stevens, 85, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away peacefully Monday, March 6, 2023, surrounded by her family after a brief battle with COVID-19.

Our loving wife, mother, and grandmother was born to Marion and Kay Anderson July 4, 1937, in Richland Center, Wis. Her husband would later often proudly announce that he had fireworks arranged for her birthday every year. At 16, she and her family moved to Colorado Springs, Colo., where she graduated high school in 1955. She attended the University of Colorado, Boulder, for two years and remained a staunch Buffs fan for life. She later earned an associate’s degree from the University of Maryland.

Nancy began her career as an administrative assistant at the newly established U.S. Air Force Academy, where she helped to plan and conduct its very first graduation ceremony. Her work for the Air Force continued in subsequent years, taking her to Ramstein AFB in Germany, where she met the love of her life, Francis Robert Stevens Jr., a career Army officer. They were married on her birthday in 1962 (yes, the 4th of July!) and together they had five children: Robert, Kathryn, Lisa, John and William. Her children blessed her with 10 grandchildren, Alexandra, Steven, James, Jacob, Kathryn, Tyler, Andrew, Alexander, Nicholas and Natalie. Nancy also leaves behind her sister and best friend, Karen Hendricks, and numerous nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.

An avid traveler, Nancy has spanned the globe from Europe to Asia, Australia, Africa, and everywhere in between. When not dragging her husband to far-flung corners of the planet, she loved reading, bargain hunting, gardening, and generally spoiling her children and grandchildren. Nancy will be greatly missed by family and friends the world over.

She will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date, and funeral service information will be communicated when available.

Final care has been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorial donations be made to Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation, 8815 Conroy Windermere Road, Ste. 309, Orlando, FL 32835, helpfightra.org.
