New charges filed against Conaway

Geogetown man, 22, on house arrest in connection with rape
November 29, 2018

Clay Conaway, already facing six counts of second-degree rape and one count of first-degree rape, now faces an additional charge of attempted second-degree rape.

A Sussex County grand jury handed up the indictment Nov. 19 charging Conaway, 22, with the new attempted rape charge and with strangulation.

Conaway has been on house arrest at his Georgetown-area home since Oct. 1 after his parents posted $310,000 bond. A check of the prison notification system Nov. 29 shows he is still on house arrest.

Conaway, a former University of Delaware student who played collegiate baseball, was first indicted on first-degree rape on Aug. 20.

He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution Sept. 27 after he was indicted on six additional counts of second-degree rape.

Five more victims contacted police stating they all were sexually assaulted by Conaway after his initial arrest in August.

A case review for Conaway is scheduled Dec. 3 in Sussex Superior Court.
