New exhibitions to open at Rehoboth Art League Oct. 19

October 14, 2018

The Rehoboth Art League has announced the Opening Reception for four new exhibitions taking place Friday, Oct. 19, from 5 to 7 p.m. “Cherished Memories of Good Times That Never Happened,” with works by Pennsylvania-based artist Richard Chandler Hoff, will be on display in the Ventures Gallery.

A graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art, Hoff is a nationally recognized artist working exclusively in graphite pencil on paper. Hoff illustrates life in America during the 1940s relying on extensive research to accurately depict that decade. In 2015, he was awarded “Master Pencil Artist (signature) Status,” by the Pencil Arts Society of Canada, and his drawings have been featured in “American Artist Magazine” and the premier issue of “Drawing” magazine. Hoff’s artistic process, including his research, in creating the images and narratives within his works will be the topic of a Gallery Talk, “From the Artist,” Saturday, Oct. 20, at 2 p.m., in the Tubbs Gallery.

Celebrating animal friends, “Animal Farm,” on display in the Tubbs Gallery, will feature works by Bethany Beach-based artists, and art league members, Laura Hickman and Wayne Weeks. Rounding out this exhibition is a large selection of juried works created by 17 league members and chosen by art league member artist Damon Pla.

The “Coastal Autumn Plein Air Paint Out,” and “Street Photography-Humans In Their Environment” exhibitions will be on view in the Corkran Gallery. The “Coastal Autumn Plein Air Paint Out” exhibition celebrates the works of 17 juried artists who braved the elements to produce an array of artwork from locations stretching from the Lewes to Bethany Beach areas. The spirit of plein air painting is embodied within all of these works, as they were created outdoors, away from the artists’ studios, and without the use of photography. A smaller number of works were previously on view during a limited exhibition at the Homestead.

This exhibition represents a comprehensive collection of works created during this recent RAL event. “Street Photography- Humans In Their Environment,” consists of a selection works created by members of the Coastal Camera Club and juried by photography collectors and curators Sally Packard and Dinah Reath. All four exhibits will be on display through Nov. 25. “About Face,” a portraiture-themed juried Members’ Showcase exhibition, continues at the Homestead through Oct. 31, after which time the Homestead will be closed to the public until May, 2019.

Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. The Opening Reception and Gallery Talk are free and open to the public. The Opening Reception is generously supported, in part, by Dogfish Head.
