New films to open at Cinema Art Theater Aug. 6
Starting Friday, Aug. 6, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present three new films, “Swan Song,” “Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain” and “Nine Days.”
In “Swan Song,” a long-retired hairdresser escapes his nursing home and embarks on an odyssey across his small Ohio town to style a well-heeled former client’s hair for her funeral. He confronts the ghosts of his past and rediscovers his sparkle along the way.
Screening times are 5:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 6; 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 7; and 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 11.
“Roadrunner: A Film about Anthony Bourdain” is an intimate, behind-the-scenes documentary that looks at how an anonymous skilled professional cook became a world-renowned cultural icon. Viewers follow the life and career of celebrity chef, writer, adventurer, and provocateur Anthony Bourdain, who lived his life unabashedly.
Screening times are 3:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 6; 1 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 8; and 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 11.
“Nine Days” is an ethereal and evocative drama about the meaning of life.
Will spends his days in a remote outpost watching the live Point of View on TVs of people going about their lives, until one subject perishes, leaving a vacancy for a new life on earth. Soon, several candidates – unborn souls – arrive at Will's to undergo tests determining their fitness, facing oblivion when they are deemed unsuitable. But Will soon faces his own existential challenge in the form of free-spirited Emma, a candidate who is not like the others, forcing him to turn within and reckon with his own tumultuous past. Fueled by unexpected power, he discovers a bold new path forward in his own life.
Screening times are 2:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 6; 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 7; 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 8; and 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 11.
Admission is $8 for members and $11 for nonmembers. Customers are encouraged to purchase admission online at rehobothfilm.com. If seats are available, admission can be purchased at the theater starting 30 minutes prior to each screening.
