New films to open at Cinema Art Theater Jan. 29

January 27, 2021

Starting Friday, Jan. 29, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present three new films.

“Malcolm & Marie” is a captivating drama that pushes a couple toward a romantic reckoning.

A filmmaker, played by John David Washington, returns home with his girlfriend, played by Zendaya, following a celebratory movie premiere. He awaits what’s sure to be imminent critical and financial success. The evening suddenly takes a turn as revelations about their relationship begin to surface, testing the strength of their love.

Screening times are 6 p.m., Friday, Jan. 29, 3 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 30, and 3 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 4

“Our Friend” is an extraordinary true story about the importance of life, friends and relationships.

The Teague family, comprising journalist Matt played by Casey Affleck, his vibrant wife Nicole played by Dakota Johnson, and their two young daughters’ lives are upended by Nicole's heartbreaking diagnosis of terminal cancer. As Matt's responsibilities as caretaker and parent become increasingly overwhelming, the couple's best friend, Dane Faucheux played by Jason Segel, offers to come and help out. As Dane puts his life on hold to stay with his friends, the impact of this life altering decision proves greater and more profound than anyone could have imagined.

Screening times are 5 p.m., Friday, Jan. 29, 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 30, 3:30 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 31, and 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 4.

“My Rembrandt” is an alluring art-world documentary that offers fascinating insight into what makes the work of a Dutch master painter so special.

Set in the world of the Old Masters, the film offers a mosaic of gripping stories in which unrestrained passion for Rembrandt’s paintings leads to dramatic developments and unexpected plot turns. While art collectors show us their special connection with ‘their’ Rembrandt, French baron Eric de Rothschild puts two Rembrandts up for sale, triggering a hard political battle between the Rijksmuseum and the Louvre. The film also follows an aristocratic Dutch art dealer as he seems to be on the trail of not just one but two ‘new’ Rembrandt paintings.

Screening times are 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 29, 5 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 30, 1 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 31, and 4 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 3.

Admission is $8 for members and $11 for nonmembers. Customers are encouraged to purchase tickets online at rehobothfilm.com. If seats are available, tickets can be purchased at the theater starting 30 minutes prior to each screening.
