New films to open March 5 at Cinema Art Theater

March 3, 2021

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present “Adam” and “My Salinger Year” starting Friday, March 5.

“Adam” is an intimate drama about two women, each trapped by her own destiny, who seek refuge in flight and denial.

Abla runs a modest local bakery from her home in Casablanca where she lives with her 8-year-old daughter Warda. Their routine of housework and homework is interrupted one day by a knock on the door. It is Samia, a young woman looking for a job and a roof over her head.

The little girl is immediately taken with the newcomer, but her mother initially refuses to allow a pregnant stranger into their home. Gradually, however, Abla’s resolve softens and Samia’s arrival begins to offer all of them the prospect of a new life.

The film world-premiered at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival and represented Morocco at the 2020 Oscars.

Screening times for “Adam” are 2 p.m., Friday, March 5; 1 and 3:30 p.m., Sunday, March 7; 3:15 p.m., Wednesday, March 10; and 2 p.m., Thursday, March 11.

“My Salinger Year” is a beautifully filmed drama about a college grad who takes a clerical job working for the literary agent of a renowned, reclusive writer.

In New York City's late ‘90s, a young aspiring writer, played by Margaret Qualley, lands a day job working for the literary agent of J.D. Salinger. While her eccentric and old-fashioned boss, played by Sigourney Weaver, tasks her to process Salinger's voluminous fan mail, she struggles to find her own voice.

Screening times for “My Salinger Year” are 3 p.m., Friday and Saturday, March 5 and 6; 2 p.m., Sunday, March 7; and 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 10.

Admission is $8 for members and $11 for nonmembers. Customers are encouraged to purchase tickets online at rehobothfilm.com. If seats are available, tickets can be purchased at the theater starting 30 minutes prior to each screening.
